The Summit on the Park’s Aquatic Center is currently closed for major renovations and is expected to re-open in early 2021.
The Summit on the Park aquatic staff strive to foster a lifelong love for swimming, health and wellness, and aquatic safety. All swim lessons are taught by highly trained swim instructors and supervised by award winning lifeguards. Classes are offered at many levels including beginners, stroke refinement, competitive training, and conditioning. All aquatic classes take place at Summit on the Park indoor aquatic center

Summit Swim School Lesson Options
Parent/Child Lessons: classes for children 6 months to 5 years that include both the parent and the child actively participating in the class together.
Session Based Group Lessons: group lessons that last 6-10 classes per session. Participants are broken up in to similar skill levels.
- Preschool: ages 3 to 5 years
- Youth: ages 5 to 12 years
- Teen/Adult: ages 12+ years
Private Lessons: participants receive one-on-one instruction for 5 to 10 classes per session.

Parent Child: Group Swim Lessons
Level 1: Ages 6 month to 2 years
The purpose of this course is to develop a beginning comfort level in and around the water. This course does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers or to survive alone in the water. One parent or guardian will assist the child and the instructor in developing water adjustment while teaching them the very basic water skills while having fun.
Level 2: Ages 1.5 Years to 3 years
The purpose of this course is to develop toddlers to have a high comfort level in and around the water. This course does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers or to survive alone in the water. One parent or guardian will assist the child and the instructor in developing water adjustment, basic water skills and getting their child ready to begin some swim skills on their own.
Level 3: Ages 2.5 to 5 years
The purpose of this class is to prepare toddlers and preschoolers to try basic swim skills on their own. Parents will assist their child during activities and move towards letting the child try skills on their own or with instructor assistance only. Parents are expected to be in the water and ready to assist at any given time. Children should be able to follow directions, try each skill on their own without parent assistance and use equipment properly before moving to the Preschool program.
Preschool: Group Swim Lessons
Ages: 3 years - 5 years
All participants are tested and placed in to classes based on the their skill level.
Instructors will utilize a variety of teaching techniques to ensure progression through the program. Participants will receive weekly activity sheets to reinforce the lessons taught during class.
Level 1
This is the beginning level for preschoolers without their parents. Swimmers will work on submerging their eyes and/or blow bubbles for 3 seconds along with some swimming, kicking and safety skills.
Level 2
Prerequisites: Must be able to submerge their eyes underwater and blow bubbles for 3 seconds.
Swimmers will work on their floating on their front with their face in the water for 3 seconds and back float for 5 seconds with assistance, along with learning to roll over and other basic swim skills.
Level 3
Prerequisites: Must be able to float and glide on their front with face in the water for 3 seconds and back float and kick for 5 seconds with assistance.
Swimmers will learn to swim on their front for 3 body lengths and roll over and float on their back for 5 seconds and roll again and swim for 3 body lengths on their front for 3 body lengths, all with assistance.
Youth: Group Swim Lessons
Ages: 5 years - 12 years
All participants are tested and placed in to classes based on the their skill level. Instructors will utilize a variety of teaching techniques to ensure progression through the program. Participants will receive weekly activity sheets to reinforce the lessons taught during class.
Level 1
This is the beginning level for youth swimmers. Swimmers will work on bubble blowing, bobbing, floating, along with some swimming, kicking and safety skills.
Level 2
Prerequisites: Must be able to bob 5 times and put their face in the water when gliding on their front for 3 seconds with assistance.
Swimmers will learn to float on their back and roll over to front and reverse by rolling from front to back, then swim 5 body lengths. Participants will also learn to tread water for at least 15 seconds.
Level 3
Prerequisites: Must be able to tread or float for 15 seconds. Float on back for 15 seconds roll to front and recover and swim 5 body lengths.
Swimmers will learn to perform the front crawl for 15 yards, elementary backstroke for 15 yards. Participants will also learn to perform the deep water competency test which consists of treading water or float for 1 minute, rotate 1 turn and swim any stroke for 25 yards and exit.
Level 4
Prerequisites: Perform the front crawl for 15 yards, Elementary back for 15 yards, and Perform the deep water competency test.
Swimmers will learn to perform front crawl for 25 yards under 40 seconds, elementary backstroke for 25 yards, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and sidestroke for 15 yards.
Level 5
Prerequisites: Swimmers must perform front crawl, back crawl, elementary back, breaststroke and sidestroke for 25 yards and butterfly for 15 yards at a level 4 stroke performance criteria.
Participants will begin to learn sidestroke. Swimmers will work on technique to improve butterfly, back crawl and breaststroke. Students will begin to work more on technique for front crawl and elementary backstroke for 50 yards.
Teen and Adult: Group Swim Lessons
Ages: 13+ Years
This class is designed for teens and adults who are at a beginning swim level or are trying to learn to swim a length of the pool. Teens and adults can let the instructor know what their goals are and the instructor will plan their lesson accordingly.
Teen/adult Beginner Classes
This class is designed for Teens/Adults who are at a beginning swim level up through those trying to learn to swim a length of the pool. Teens and Adults can let the instructor know what their goals are and the instructor will plan their lesson accordingly.
Intermediate Adult Classes: 18+ years
This class is geared for individuals that can swim a length of the pool and are working on improving their swim ability for a long distance swim or competitive race. A trained instructor will serve as your coach throughout the session and give you insight to making advances toward your goals.
Private Swim Instruction
Ages: 5+ years
The Summit Swimming program offers private swim lessons for individuals looking for one on one instruction. Private lessons are 30 minutes in length and are taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor. The lesson is designed around the specific needs and goals of the participants.
Competitive Prep Swim TeamS Now Available Through Plymouth-Canton Cruisers
Plymouth-Canton Cruisers (PCC) and Summit Aquatics are excited to offer two new swimming programs at the Summit beginning Fall 2019:
• The Mini-Cruisers Program (elementary school/ages 6-10) to develop racing strokes for athletes wanting to go further than swim lessons and potentially transition to PCC’s USA Swimming Competitive team.
• The Competitive Development Program (middle & high school/ages 11-17) offers classes that develop and improve racing strokes for those preparing for their middle school or high school teams and PCC’s USA Swimming Competitive team
When and where are practices? PCC will offer practices 7 days a week at the Summit and/or the PARC (downtown Plymouth). Classes will be 55-minutes. Participants will have the opportunity to select the classes that best fit their schedules to continue their swimming development.
Will there be meets? PCC will be able to offer periodic internal competitions to allow athletes to measure their performance and receive feedback from the PCC Coaching staff to help promote development.
What’s are the costs? PCC’s costs are billed on a monthly basis instead of session by session. Learn about these monthly fees here. Opens a New Window.
PCC programs offer flexible scheduling where athletes can select one, two, or three classes per week. PCC development programs also have a $50 yearly membership fee to account for administration, swim gear, and equipment.

Inclement Weather Policy
If the Plymouth/Canton School District closes due to inclement weather during the school year (typically due to winter weather conditions), all Leisure Services Department programs/classes held prior to 4:00 pm will be canceled. For Leisure Services programs/classes that begin after 4:00 pm a determination to cancel will be made no later than 2:00 pm that day.
